Our Role
EDSS is an independent registered charity that provides practical support, information and assistance to people affected by emergencies.
We are not:
- An insurance company.
- An insurance broker or loss adjuster.
- A building contractor.
- A solicitor or legal adviser.
- A financial adviser.
Our role is to provide information, practical assistance and, where appropriate, introduce residents to organisations that may be able to offer specialist support.
Partner Organisations
EDSS works with a number of carefully selected partner organisations and emergency contractors to help support residents following an emergency.
Where EDSS introduces you to a partner organisation, this is because we believe they may be able to assist based on the information available at the time.
You are under no obligation to use the services of any organisation introduced by EDSS and are free to choose any contractor, insurer, adviser or service provider of your own choosing.
Any agreement you enter into for services is directly between you and the organisation you choose. As partner organisations are independent businesses, they are responsible for the services they provide and for any agreements entered into with you.
EDSS does not receive commission or referral fees in exchange for introducing residents to approved partner organisations. Partner organisations are selected based on their experience, professionalism and ability to support people following an emergency.
Emergency Contractors
Where requested, EDSS may arrange for an approved emergency contractor to contact you regarding temporary works to help make your property safe following an emergency.
Unless EDSS expressly agrees otherwise, the cost of any emergency works remains your responsibility. Where appropriate, these costs may be recoverable through your insurer, subject to the terms and conditions of your insurance policy.
Where EDSS agrees to arrange payment for emergency works in exceptional circumstances, this does not alter your responsibility for those costs, and EDSS may seek reimbursement from your insurer or, where appropriate, from you directly.
Insurance Claims
EDSS may provide general information about the insurance claims process and introduce you to organisations that specialise in insurance support.
However, EDSS does not make decisions about insurance cover, liability or claim settlements. These decisions remain solely the responsibility of your insurer and are subject to the terms and conditions of your insurance policy.
